I just LOVE traveling and finding vegan options in new places to share with you!
THIS trip in particular did NOT let me down. In fact, it surpassed ALLLLL my expectations! (don’t you just love when that happens?)
*I do apologize for the lack of quality in the photos. I was on the go everyday with only my phone :)*
So let’s start at the theme park:
Surprisingly, I was satisfied and full the WHOLE DAY!
Here is what I ate at the park:
BREAKFAST: I walked over to STARBUCKS and got a couple nut bars and a bag of plain potato chips. Both were good and helped me get my day started with something in my tummy. Starbucks also has bananas, juices and other quick snack things you can get in your belly throughout the day.
LUNCH: I walked over to the COWFISH. A sushi burger restaurant that has a few vegan options! I got the EDAMAME with sea salt. The VEGETARIAN ROLL with cucumber, avocado and asparagus. As well as the TREE HUGGER ROLL with shitake mushrooms, peppers, cucumber and basil. And of course, a SEAWEED SALAD. All was so delish!!! I was so full, I had to kill time at the park to let my food digest before going any on more rides 🙂
SNACK: At Islands of Adventure, I went to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. This big bag of cold grapes was the perfect treat!
DINNER: All of the food above kept me full and satisfied for 12 hours at the park! Before I left, I went back to COWFISH. I got the same rolls and this time with a large side of fries! (Also, I overheard the bartender say to another vegan customer that their veggie burgers are now made vegan!)
I also planned on getting an Auntie Anne’s pretzel without the butter just in case of a hunger emergency, but found no need to!
Most of the restaurants inside of the park have the worst food to my surprise. Lots of pizza, ribs and chicken. I couldn’t believe the lack of healthy options!!!
Overall ~ vegan food is not as accessible as you would think at a big place like this but I was pleased with the few options I did have! I was so good the whole day.
MY FAVORITE RIDES:
“Race Through New York with Jimmy Fallon”
& All of the Harry Potter Rides both at Universal and Islands of Adventure.
(btw: I’ve never seen Harry Potter before but those rides make me wanna binge. haha)
While I was in the sunshine state, I also got the chance to check out a couple vegan spots around the city:
MAOZ VEGETARIAN. Located inside the food court of the Mall at Millenia. The food is mediterranean with mostly vegan options. The employees are upbeat and the food is great. I got a strawberry smoothie and the hummus/falafel plate with taboulli, tomato-cucumber salad, olives and pickles. And of course…FRIES. The fries are delicious, btw.
The smoothie was so refreshing! I loved the salad, falafel and the pickles most. Wasn’t crazy about the tabouli but whatevs. They also have gluten free stuff, too!!
DIXIE DHARMA. What can I say about this place? I will book a flight back right now just to eat here again. It’s a small place where you order and pay first then sit. The menu is limited with a bunch of greatness.
I ordered the fried green tomato sandwich (Green tomatoes sliced thick, breaded, n’ deep-fried, with smoked eggplant remoulade, garlicky kale & chow-chow on texas toast). With a side of collard greens.
AND the Carolina Pulled Jackfruit sandwich (with crispy fried onions, garlic pickle, arugula, preserved lemon & coca-cola reduction on texas toast) with a side of their regular mac n cheese. I also tried their garlic mac-n-cheese which is AMAZINGGG!
And, for dessert, the most perfect little chocolate cupcake with vanilla frosting. SO unbelievable that as I was eating it in the car, I had to double check that the restaurant was FULLY vegan via google.
AND to top it all off, I brought 10 of my non vegan family members with me…WHO ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!
Oh.my.goodness. This place. I’ve NEVER SEEN A VEGAN FAMILY STYLE RESTAURANT. It feels like you are in like a Chili’s…T.G.I.F’s… or Applebee’s. But completely VEGAN. So bizarre. So appreciated.
I ordered the GARLIC KNOTS. They were PERFECT. And I’m currently daydreaming about them. Cheese and BUTTER EVERYwhere. Yummmmm.
And…The Philly Cheese Steak aka the “What’s the Dilly, Philly?” (Marinated seitan sautéed with onions, red and green bell peppers, mozzarella cheese and veganaise. Served on a French deli roll.) Even better the next day.
As well as their Mac ‘n Cheese ‘n Peas. Good!
For dessert, I enjoyed a delicious chocolate chip cookie.
Other things I ate:
Panera Bread – The Mediterranean Veggie with no feta + sub the tomato basil bread for ciabatta. (you can thank me later)
A huge thing of guacamole at a nice Mexican Restaurant!
For the plane, I stopped by Whole Foods. I grabbed some stuff from the hot bar (which I never do. because- GERMS. haha) and some seaweed snacks!
(southern styled collard greens at the bottom- yum. And I really wish I wouldv’e gotten more of those Asian noodles!!!)
The only moment I felt like I had a “vegan crisis” was in my hotel on the late night. There were no vegan options besides french fries. And yes, I happily ordered them from room service as I watched Martin. 🙂
(french fries: always there to save a vegan’s day!)
WELL…I hope this encourages you to visit Orlando and try the great vegan options it has to offer. Thank you, ORLANDO!!! I WILL be back!
